Pollination has announced plans to construct a 900 MW solar farm that will be part of the proposed AUD3 billion (US$2 million) East Kimberley Clean Energy Project in Australia. The installation will be the country's first 100% renewable energy hydrogen and ammonia production hub. The project is being developed near the town of Kununurra and is expected to start operations by 2028.
The East Kimberley Clean Energy Project will be managed and planned by the Aboriginal Clean Energy (ACE) partnership, a new company where traditional landowners hold equal shares. The involvement of traditional owner groups directly in the project mitigates risks associated with land use agreements and approvals and offers attractive prospects to investors.
Pollination's first stage of the project will involve building a 900 MW solar farm and a 50,000 tons per year green hydrogen plant on MG Corp. freehold land. The initiative aims to combine solar energy from the solar farm, hydro energy from the existing Ord Hydro Power Plant at Lake Argyle, and freshwater from Lake Kununurra to produce green hydrogen. The hydrogen will then be transported through a new pipeline to Wyndham's "export-ready" port to be converted into green ammonia. The resulting 250,000 tons of green ammonia will then be produced annually for both domestic and export markets in the fertilizers and explosives sectors.
