Enel Green Power (EGP) has announced the signing of a 12-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with BHP Group for the 76 MW Flat Rocks Wind Farm Stage One in Western Australia.
EGP will provide roughly 315 GWh of wind energy per year to help BHP decarbonize its nickel operations. According to the firm, the contracted output is sufficient to meet the demands of both the Kalgoorlie Nickel Smelter and the Kambalda concentrator.
Flat Rocks, which will have 18 Vestas turbines installed in the Great Southern Region of Western Australia, is now in the planning stages and will cost over US$200 million to build. Moonies Hill Energy, a local company, is collaborating on the project.
