Potentia Energy, a joint venture between Italy’s Enel Green Power and its Japanese oil group Inpex Corp, has delivered its Quorn solar-storage hybrid project in New South Wales, Australia.
The Quorn Park Solar Hybrid is the first hybrid project in Australia’s National Electricity Market (NEM) to secure approval for a single hybrid generator performance standard (GPS). The facility is expected to produce approximately 250,000 MWh of electricity annually, enough to meet the power needs of more than 45,000 local homes. Situated around 10 km northwest of Parkes, the project combines 98 MW of solar PV capacity with a 20 MW/40 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). The hybrid facility was developed with an investment of approximately AUD 190 million (USD 136.5 million/EUR 117.1 million).
The project received approval in 2020, with construction commencing in late 2024. The facility was developed in collaboration with EPC contractor Beon Energy Solutions, alongside SMA Australia, LONGi, BYD and Nextracker. Australian electricity retailer Zen Energy has entered into a 10-year power purchase agreement (PPA) to purchase the majority of the project’s electricity generation.
