European Energy has secured financial closing for the Winton North solar and battery project in Australia. Funding for the project has been secured from Commerzbank AG, Singapore Branch, and Société Générale to support the development and operation of the hybrid renewable energy facility. The project combines a 130 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant with a 100 MW/220 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). Amazon, which already has a power purchase agreement (PPA) for the solar generation, has also entered into a separate PPA covering the battery energy storage component.
Construction of Winton North has already begun and is expected to be completed in 2026. The project combines utility-scale solar generation with battery storage, enabling renewable electricity to be stored and dispatched when demand is highest and supporting a more flexible electricity system.
