CS Energy, an energy company owned by the State of Queensland, will develop a 100 MW/200 MWh battery energy storage facility near the town of Chinchilla by investing up to AUD150 million (US$112.12 million) in the project.
The project will be built in the Western Downs Region, about 300 km inland from Brisbane in Australia. Once operational, it will form part of the energy hub at the site of the 750 MW Kogan Creek Power Station. The project will be connected to the region's 275kV substation of network operator Powerlink.
Tesla Megapacks will be used in the facility with construction set to start before the end of 2022.
