Shell, in collaboration with Eku Energy, the battery storage arm of Macquarie Group, has officially commenced pre-construction activities for the Rangebank Battery Energy Storage System in Australia. Located on the outskirts of Melbourne, within the Rangebank business park in Cranbourne, the 200 MW/400 MWh battery project is set to become one of the largest energy storage installations in the state of Victoria.
Expected to be completed by late 2024, the Rangebank battery will play a vital role in enhancing the stability and reliability of the grid. Aside from providing essential grid services, the energy storage system will enable the integration of a greater amount of renewable energy into the power grid.
Development of the project is a joint effort between Eku Energy and Shell Energy, with Perfection Private, also having a minority stake in the venture.
Neoen has expanded its Western Downs Battery Project which is currently under construction to a total installed capacity of 270 MW / 540 MWh.
