Origin Power has been awarded AUD70 million (US$48.07 million) in funding from the Federal Government of Australia for the development of the Hunter Valley Hydrogen Hub (HVHH) in New South Wales, Australia.
The project, in collaboration with Orica, aims to produce green hydrogen through electrolysis using renewable electricity sources. The first stage of the project is expected to generate 5,500 metric tons of green hydrogen annually. The majority of this hydrogen will be delivered to Orica's Kooragang Island ammonia manufacturing facility in Newcastle.
HVHH is currently undergoing front-end engineering design, or FEED, which will assist inform the development's final technical and commercial elements. While the project's final investment decision is still pending, production from the site is scheduled for 2026.
