TotalEnergies and Petronas have signed a collaboration agreement to develop the 100 MW Pleasant Hills solar project in Queensland, Australia. The solar farm will be co-developed by TotalEnergies’ and Petronas’ clean energy subsidiaries and will generate solar power to supply the Gladstone liquefied natural gas (LNG) processing facility, located in the Roma area of Queensland. Currently, TotalEnergies and Petronas each hold a 27.5% stake in Gladstone.
The collaboration agreement also covers development projects in the Asia-Pacific region, potentially paving the way for future joint efforts. TotalEnergies already work with Petronas on upstream operations in eight markets worldwide. TotalEnergies has been striving to reduce its carbon footprint by expanding its renewable energy portfolio and aims to have 100 GW of renewable energy assets by 2030.
This partnership supports the Queensland government’s commitment to achieve 50% renewable energy generation by 2030. It also helps to reduce carbon emissions from the Gladstone facility, which is already one of the largest LNG production plants in the world, by moving towards a cleaner energy source.
