Origis Energy and the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) announced that construction has begun on the first of three solar projects with a total capacity of 550 MW plus 150 MW of battery storage in Mississippi, USA.

The first of three projects in Mississippi with a total capacity of 550 MW plus 150 MW of battery storage includes the following:

  • Golden Triangle I, a 200 MW(AC) project with 50 MW of battery storage, is slated for completion in summer 2024.
  • Simultaneously, The Golden Triangle II project, boasting 150 MW(AC) capacity along with 50 MW battery storage, is anticipated to be completed in spring 2024. Both these projects are situated in Lowndes County.
  • Additionally, Optimist, a 200 MW(AC) project with 50 MW of battery storage located in Clay County, is projected to be finished by mid-2025.

All three projects were developed, are currently under construction, and will be operated by Origis Energy. They will supply clean energy at competitive rates through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) signed between TVA and Origis.

Economic benefits from these projects are estimated to include US$106 million in immediate construction and employment gains for the area. Over the solar plants' lifespan, they are expected to yield an additional US$145 million in regional economic benefits. The collective installation will involve around 1.5 million solar panel modules, sufficient to power approximately 126,000 homes.
