Bute Energy has unveiled plans for the 80 MW Moel Chwa Energy Park, a wind project in Wales, UK. The wind farm will feature 12 wind turbines that will reach a maximum tip height of 200 m. The wind farm will connect to the National Grid through a new substation located around 7km away from Gwyddelwern. Since the project is classified as a Development of National Significance and will generate more than 10 MW of energy, Bute Energy will apply to Planning and Environment Decisions Wales (PEDW) for planning permission.
As part of the Moel Chwa Energy Park project, a Community Benefit Fund will be established, providing GBP590,000 (US$737, 677) worth of investment locally each year. The fund will focus on creating employment opportunities for local people, supporting access to energy parks, and working with local schools and community facilities to reduce their energy bills and carbon footprint. Bute Energy's Community Benefit team is committed to engaging with local groups and services to understand the needs and aspirations of the communities and ensure that the investment delivers maximum benefits to the local area.
The initial public consultation will run until 11 June 2023, with public drop-in sessions to provide information and feedback opportunities. Bute Energy's Community Benefit team will attend the events, focused on identifying local groups and services to engage with now. Bute Energy plans to submit a planning application to PEDW in 2024, following thorough public engagement.
