Kent Plc has secured a deal to conduct a pre-front end engineering design study for a 2.9 GW offshore wind project located 60 km off the coast of Aberdeen in Scotland. The engineering study is being conducted on the Morven Offshore Wind Project, a project that forms part of the ScotWind leasing round. The study will be conducted in partnership with Ternan Energy for 6 months, alongside developers BP Plc and EnBW Energie Baden-Wuerttemberg AG. The project is one of the deepest offshore wind projects globally, with water depths ranging from 65 m to 75 m.
Kent’s engineering design work will inform key decisions for the project, including foundation type, corrosion protection concepts, transportation, and installation feasibility. The project will use fixed-bottom turbines, and is expected to establish an operations and maintenance base in Aberdeen and use the Port of Leith as its marshaling port.
The Morven offshore wind project is another step towards Scotland’s goal of reaching net zero by 2045. Additionally, this project will bring additional job opportunities and contribute to Scotland's economy, given its expected longevity, which will ultimately drive down costs and enhance self-sufficiency in energy production.
