Vattenfall’s South Kyle Wind Farm in East Ayrshire and Dumfries and Galloway has successfully installed its 50th and final wind turbine, marking a major milestone towards the completion of the renewable energy project. Turbine H04 was the final installation, with its three 64-meter blades being lifted into position. The development had an eleven-month installation process, whereby 450 major components were transported from Ayr and Glasgow to the site southeast of Dalmellington for assembly and installation.
The South Kyle Wind Farm is Vattenfall’s largest onshore development in the UK, generating 240 MW of electricity, meeting the equivalent demand of approximately 170,000 UK homes annually, once it is completed. Its completion will also generate a fund for local communities worth an estimated EUR38 million (US$41.6 million) over a 25-year period.
The final stages of energisation, testing, and commissioning are currently underway on the South Kyle Wind Farm. The development is scheduled to be completed during the summer months. The wind farm, along with other forms of renewable energy projects, can play a major role in decreasing carbon footprints in the energy sector and providing clean energy to many homes and businesses.
