Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners has announced the start of construction on Cleve Hill, the largest solar and battery storage project in the UK. With more than 373 MW of solar power and over 150 MW of battery storage, Cleve Hill is a significant addition to the UK's renewable energy sources. The project was approved by the UK Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy in May 2020 and is expected to be operational by the end of 2024, generating enough renewable energy to power over 100,000 households in the UK.
The Cleve Hill solar project will play a critical role in reducing carbon emissions by approximately 164,450 tonnes annually. Additionally, the project's massive scale will increase the UK's energy security by providing a substantial contribution to the country's energy grid. It will also play a vital role in propelling the UK's journey towards Net Zero.
Quinbrook has received a 15-year Contract for Difference (CFD) through the UK government's auction scheme, which will support financing for the Cleve Hill project. This contract award is the largest received by any UK solar project to date.
