The Namibian Government has shared the progress in planning the 6 GW Hyphen hydrogen project, currently in development with a preferred bidder, Hyphen Hydrogen Energy (Hyphen).
The large-scale vertically integrated hydrogen project will contribute to the rapid growth of green hydrogen production, generating 300,000 tons of green hydrogen per year at its full operational scale. The facility will produce hydrogen from 5-6 GW of generation capacity and 3 GW of electrolyzer capacity, saving 5-6 million tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. The project is part of the Government's Tsau Khaeb National Park Southern Corridor Development Initiative (SCDI), with the target to produce 3 million tons per year of hydrogen in the SCDI.
The Government and Hyphen have been working together on this project, especially on its pre-feasibility studies, and a timeline for negotiating the implementation agreement according to the tender's requirements. Pre-feasibility activities include a master planning process, developed by Namport and the Port of Rotterdam. The plan is proposed to be implemented by PRDW.
The Namibian Government has selected HYPHEN Hydrogen Energy as the preferred bidder for the development of the large-scale vertically integrated green hydrogen project.
