The Namibian Government has selected HYPHEN Hydrogen Energy as the preferred bidder for the development of the large-scale vertically integrated green hydrogen project.
Located in the Tsau/Khaeb national park, the project will produce 300,000 tons of green hydrogen per year for regional and global markets in the form of pure green hydrogen or in derivative form (green ammonia). The project has an estimated value of US$9.4 billion. Once the contractual agreement is finalized, HYPHEN will be responsible for the construction and operation of the hydrogen plant for a 40-year period.
Once fully developed, the project will provide a major boost to Namibia in terms of foreign direct investment and job creation. Almost 15,000 direct jobs will be created during the four-year construction of two phases, with a further 3,000 jobs created permanently during the operational phase.
SunEQ recently announced it has reached financial close for a 5MW solar photovoltaic project in Namibia. The facility will be built in the Otjozondjupa region for Ohorongo Cement; also the Development Bank of Namibia (DBN) has helped SunEQ secure financing.
