Namibia's Ministry of Environment and Tourism (MET) has signed a land lease agreement, to allow the construction of a 44 megawatt (MW) renewable power plant, which will help the country generate its own power in the next five years.
The MET signed the agreement with Diaz Wind Power, a unit of the United Africa Group (UAG). The plant will be located at Luderitz, and the lease agreement is for 25 years.
The project is estimated to cost about NAD1.5 billion (US$106.7 million) and forms part of the Namibia power utility's new five-year corporate strategy and business plan.
