Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has confirmed that PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGEO) is preparing for the acquisition of the 240 MW Sorik Marapi Geothermal Power Plant, located in Mandailing Natal Regency in North Sumatra.
PGEO is a wholly-owned subsidiary of PT Pertamina (Persero), often referred to simply as Pertamina. Pertamina is Indonesia's largest state-owned enterprise and is responsible for the exploration, production, and distribution of oil, natural gas, and other energy-related activities. It is involved in the development, exploration, and operation of geothermal power plants in Indonesia. This includes the drilling of geothermal wells, steam production, electricity generation, and distribution to the grid.
The operation of the power plant falls under the management of PT Sorik Marapi Geothermal Power (SMGP), a subsidiary of KS Orka Renewables Pte. Ltd. This project ranks among the largest geothermal endeavors underway in Indonesia.
