The United Kingdom (UK) has added 555 MW of new photovoltaic (PV) capacity by the end of December 2022, with cumulative capacity reaching 14.3 GW through more than 1.2 million installations, a 4% increase from December 2021. Rooftop installations for micro generation projects below 4 kW accounted for most of the growth, with 288.6 MW of new capacity added, while large-scale installations between 5 MW and 25 MW grew by only 23 MW since 2021.
The UK Microgeneration Certification Scheme reported that 130,596 PV systems were installed in UK homes last year, the highest level of annual deployment since 2015. However, the country did not add any PV installations above 25 MW in size in 2022, with a cumulative capacity of 1,728.7 MW since 2021. In December 2022, a total of 50 MW of new installations were added across all segments.
Overall, the UK's microgeneration capacity has seen a significant increase, while large-scale installations have seen minimal growth.
