Tokyo Gas and Shinobuyama Fukushima Power have began planning the installation of a two-turbine, 30-MW floating wind project in Japan following the release of an environmental impact assessment (EIA) for the new venture.
The two Principle Power WindFloat platforms are anchored in 100 to 120 m of water off the Fukushima prefecture on the country's western coast. The pilot project is expected to begin production in 2027.
Through the EIA, the partners will continue with the study while gaining understanding through repeated interactions with local fishery officials, local citizens, and relevant local governments.
Japan has established targets to install up to 45 GW by 2040 and allocate 10 GW by 2030.
