ERM has contracted Principle Power to advance the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) for a 10 MW Wind-to-Hydrogen Dolphyn demonstrator project off the coast of Aberdeen, Scotland. ERM Dolphyn won GBP8.62 million (US$9.8 million) from the UK Government's Low Carbon Hydrogen Supply 2 Competition.

ERM Dolphyn (Deepwater Offshore Local Production of Hydrogen) has designed a concept to produce green hydrogen from floating offshore wind. The ERM Dolphyn concept integrates electrolysis with a wind turbine on a moored floating semi-submersible platform based on Principle Power's WindFloat technology to produce hydrogen from saltwater using wind power as the energy source.

The demonstrator project is scheduled to begin operations in late 2025. ERM Dolphyn's 4 GW total capacity could heat 1.5 million houses without carbon emissions, avoiding millions of tons of CO2 each year.
