Independent Power Producer (IPP) Sturdee Energy has selected the South African subsidiary of German engineering and construction company Soventix to build the 3 MWp Bobonong solar photovoltaic project in the eastern region of Botswana.
The solar farm will be implemented through a public-private partnership (PPP) scheme. The project is being simultaneously constructed with the 1 MWp Shakawe project in the north of the country. For both solar plants, Sturdee Energy has already signed 25-year power purchase agreements (PPAs) with the state-owned Botswana Power Corporation (BPC).
The Botswana government has issued the first permits for the construction of the two solar projects in 2019, with the aim of diversifying its electricity mix.
