The Ireland Strategic Investment Fund (ISIF) has committed GBP80 million (USD98 Million) to Octopus Energy Generation’s Sky fund.
With the latest infusion of funds, the Sky fund has surpassed the GBP1 billion (USD1.2 Billion) mark, propelling the global shift towards a sustainable energy ecosystem. Launched in March 2021, the Sky fund is a pivotal part of Octopus's ambitious goal to raise GBP3 billion (USD3.6 Billion) by 2025, expanding its reach both geographically and technologically. This initiative has already seen nearly 30 projects in 9 countries benefitting from its investments, spanning British and Dutch offshore, German and Swedish onshore wind farms, and ventures into solar energy projects in Ireland and Japan.
Beyond its core focus on renewable energy, the fund allocates 25% to diverse sectors, including investments in electric vehicle charge point infrastructure and a collaborative green hydrogen venture with RES. Octopus Energy Generation, a major player in Europe's renewables and energy transition landscape, manages a substantial GBP6 billion (USD 7.3 billion) portfolio across 15 countries. Their fund management team facilitates institutional investors' access to renewable energy infrastructure and pioneering private companies driving the energy transition. The Sky fund, characterized as an open-ended and evergreen investment, plays a crucial role in accelerating the energy transition by backing a varied portfolio of projects.
