Asset manager Capital Dynamics has switched on the 50 MW Longhill Burn wind farm in West Lothian, Scotland.
Under a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA), the wind farm will exclusively supply Sainsbury’s with 100% clean electricity. Anticipated to generate 150,000 MWh of clean energy annually, this power source will be utilized to operate the retailer’s stores, offices, and depots across the UK.
The wind farm, equipped with eight Siemens Gamesa turbines standing at 200 m tall with 76 m-long blades, is expected to deliver a maximum output of 6–6.4 MW each. Longhill Burn marks the seventh wind project from which Sainsbury’s is sourcing all its energy needs, with an eighth site set to commence operations in 2024.
