NORD/LB Norddeutsche Landesbank has financed the construction and operation of an 80 MWDC/50 MWAC solar farm that is co-located with an 8 MW/16 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) on land east of Hutton Cranswick, Driffield in the East Riding of Yorkshire, UK.

The funding totaling GBP36 million (USD44.5 million) includes long-term refinancing provided by KfW Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau via NORD/LB in two separate tranches.

The co-located site will be situated across multiple flat agricultural fields, 2km south of the Skerne Wetlands, and will connect to the grid through an existing 132kV overhead line that passes through the site. Covering approximately 99 ha of Grade 3b agricultural land, the site may accommodate grazing livestock when the Solar PV & BESS are operational. After 40 years, the project will be decommissioned, and the land will be restored to its original state. The project offers numerous benefits, including:

  • clean electricity capable of powering around 21,000 UK households annually.
  • It also results in savings of approximately 22,000 tonnes of CO2 per year, equivalent to up to 12,000 yearly passenger vehicle emissions.
  • Additionally, the project contributes to the construction of an extensive bicycle lane network for the nearby Hutton Cranswick area.
