Shell Brasil and Porto do Açu have signed MOU for the joint construction of a green hydrogen facility in Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil.
The companies will develop a 10 MW green hydrogen plant on the port premises in Açu, which is planned to be expanded to up to 100 MW in the future. The facility is expected to be ready for operation in 2025.
The facility will produce renewable hydrogen with an electrolysis plant powered by electricity from the national grid. Part of this hydrogen will be stored for subsequent shipment to potential consumers, while the remaining hydrogen will be utilized for the renewable ammonia generation plant.
