Casa dos Ventos has issued a BRL430 million (US$88.11 million) in green bonds to finance the expansion of the 534 MW Rio do Vento wind project in Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. The wind complex has an investment of BRL4.9 billion(US$1 billion) and has financing secured from BNDES and BNB.

The green debentures are linked to four wind farms that add up to 268 MW of capacity and have an annual generation potential of 1,389 GWh of renewable energy. They will avoid the annual emission of 662,000 tons of CO2 equivalent. The complete Rio do Vento project will have 240 wind turbines with 1,038 MW of installed power.

The first phase of the complex is in operation with 504 MW of capacity and supplies energy to Anglo American, Braskem, Grupo Moura, Tivit, and Vulcabras, among others.
