RES Group has been granted planning permission to construct the 49.8 MW Holmston Farm Energy Storage System to be installed on land currently used as a Christmas tree farm in South West Scotland. The facility is designed to store electricity during periods of excess generation and release it back to the grid during times of high demand. This project will help to improve security in the supply of wind, solar, and other renewable sources.

The South Ayrshire Council has unanimously approved the proposal. The storage system includes a detailed landscaping plan that will provide a rich and diverse habitat for various wildlife species. Such measures include the planting of native woodland, the creation of a pond, and the incorporation of species-rich grasslands. The provision of these plans and their implementation will offer significant biodiversity enhancement and will result in a biodiversity net gain of 15%.
