West Moberly First Nations and RES have signed a 30-year Energy Purchase Agreement (EPA) with BC Hydro for the Sweetwater Wind Project, a 210MW wind energy project located near Dawson Creek, British Columbia.
West Moberly First Nations will maintain a majority stake of 51% in the project through its wholly owned subsidiary. Situated on privately owned agricultural land within Treaty 8 territory, the project site lies about 20 km north of Dawson Creek. Drawing on its extensive understanding of the region and proven experience in renewable energy development and environmental stewardship, West Moberly First Nations will have a leading role in project planning and the environmental assessment process. The executed Energy Purchase Agreement (EPA) is expected to deliver long-term economic value to the Peace River region by creating local employment and contracting opportunities, while generating sustained revenue for West Moberly First Nations and neighbouring communities.
For over 20 years, RES has developed and/or constructed more than 4GW of renewable energy capacity across Canada, spanning wind, solar, and energy storage in five provinces. The company has been involved in 20% of all operational wind energy in Canada and this marks RES’ entrance into a new province and expands its footprint coast to coast. The Sweetwater Wind Project is being advanced by a dedicated local British Columbia team combining on-the-ground regional expertise with the global strength and resources of RES’ worldwide operations.
