BC Hydro (British Columbia Hydro and Power Authority) is the principal electric utility in the province of British Columbia, Canada, and one of the largest publicly owned power utilities in North America. Established as a provincial Crown corporation and owned by the Government of British Columbia, BC Hydro generates, purchases, transmits, and distributes electricity to approximately 95% of the province’s population, serving more than five million people. The utility operates an extensive network of hydroelectric generating stations, transmission lines, and distribution infrastructure, with the majority of its electricity coming from renewable hydroelectric resources. Guided by its mission to provide safe, reliable, affordable, and clean electricity, BC Hydro plays a critical role in supporting economic growth, electrification, and the transition to a low-carbon economy. The organization is also committed to environmental stewardship, Indigenous reconciliation, customer service excellence, and the development of sustainable energy solutions to meet British Columbia’s future energy needs.
