Renantis has announced an opportunity for customers to buy green hydrogen from its new 2.5 MW hydrogen project in the UK. The facility, located in Knockshinnoch near New Cumnock in Ayrshire, will utilize wind energy to produce green hydrogen off-grid. Renantis has partnered with Logan Energy and Hive Hydrogen to lead the development of this initiative.
The Knockshinnoch project was awarded a UK Government grant through the Net Zero Hydrogen Fund, a selective program aimed at accelerating the production and adoption of hydrogen as a clean energy source. Once the project commences production, which is anticipated to be in the summer of 2025, potential buyers will have access to green hydrogen. This presents an excellent opportunity for UK transport companies and local authorities to power their hydrogen trucks and buses with clean energy, resulting in only water as a waste product. Furthermore, by utilizing green hydrogen, these entities will be able to claim Renewable Transport Fuel Certificates, satisfying UK Government requirements to increase the use of renewable fuels in the transport sector.
The green hydrogen, in addition to powering the transport sector, can also be employed in industrial processes, replacing fossil fuel energy or existing fossil-intensive feedstocks. This switch to green hydrogen aligns with the UK Government's goal of reducing carbon emissions and achieving a net-zero economy.
