Siemens Gamesa has completed the installation of the first turbine at the Neart na Gaoithe offshore wind farm project located about 15.5 km off the east coast of Scotland, UK.
The 450 MW wind farm is a joint venture between EDF Renewables and ESB. The wind farm will have a total of 54 8-MW turbines installed at the Neart na Gaoithe (NnG) construction site once completed.
Once commissioned, this will be the first NnG wind turbine to generate electricity, which will flow via the subsea inter-array cable to the offshore substation and, from there, via the subsea export cable to Thorntonloch Beach, where the underground onshore export cable will transmit it to the national grid.
