EDF Renewables UK has been granted planning consent for its 49.9 MW Glassthorpe solar photovoltaic (PV) project to be located between the villages of Flore and Upper Heyford, along the M1 Corridor, in the UK. West Northamptonshire Council unanimously approved the project following a strategic planning committee meeting recently. The project will generate sufficient low-carbon electricity to meet the needs of over 9,500 households and will contribute to the country's renewable energy target.
EDF Renewables UK will pay GBP20,000 (US$25,899) annually to the community fund over the project’s 40-year lifespan. The company plans to begin site preparation later this year, with an estimated completion date of late 2024.
The approval for the Glassthorpe solar farm comes amidst growing awareness of climate change and the need for clean energy production.
