PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna has announced that it has set a new record for renewable energy generation, producing 1,931 GWh of electricity in 2022, a 5.3% increase from the previous year. This achievement was made possible through investments in wind, solar photovoltaics (PV) and hydropower capacity.
PGE is expanding its renewable energy capacity to increase energy security and independence, and to offer lower electricity prices due to a lack of carbon dioxide emissions fees. The company's 2022 renewable energy production can meet the electricity needs of 860,000 households, or all of the residents of Lodz province.
PGE operates 20 wind farms with 342 turbines and 24 PV farms with an overall capacity of 500 MW. The group also has 29 hydropower facilities and four pumped-storage plants with a total capacity of 1,543 MW. By 2030, PGE plans to expand its PV capacity to 3 GW, its onshore wind farms to 1.7 GW, and its offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea to 2.5 GW. The company aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 by investing further in solar, wind and hydropower.
