PGE Group has announced a tender for the construction of a 263 MW/900 MWh battery energy storage (BESS) facility located in the vicinity of the Żarnowiec Pumped Storage Power Plant in Poland.
The planned BESS at ESP Żarnowiec will improve the National Power System's reliability during the energy transition and provide PGE with a predictable revenue stream. It will provide regulatory system services to the Transmission Network Operator, balance local onshore wind farms, and assist future PGE wind facilities in the Baltic Sea.
The procurement procedure will be performed as an open tender, with formal proceedings likely to begin in June or July 2024. However, PGE has previously outlined the participation conditions for possible contractors.
