Orbital Marine Power (Orbital) has secured an option agreement from the Crown Estate Scotland for the development of a 30 MW tidal energy project that will be located in the Westray Firth, UK.
The facility will have approximately 12 Orbital devices that will be installed across the site. The location is strategic for the tidal energy project as it has significantly wider tidal stream energy potential.
Orbital, based in Orkney, has also confirmed that it has a grid connection in place to service the groundbreaking project, which is located adjacent to the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) facility, where Orbital has already deployed the 2MW O2 in commercial operation.
