TotalEnergies and Simply Blue Group have received planning consent for the Erebus floating offshore wind farm, which will be the largest floating wind farm to receive full planning consent in the UK. The 100 MW project, situated in the Celtic Sea off the coast of Wales, will be the first of its kind in the country.
The Welsh Government planning website has approved the s36 application for the project, which will feature up to seven 14 MW turbines housed on semi-submersible floating platforms, 35km southwest of Pembrokeshire.
The decision allows Blue Gem Wind, the joint venture behind the project, to bid for the floating wind farm in the UK's next Contract for Difference round. The deadline for qualifying for the auction is at the end of the month, with a reference price for floating wind set at GBP116/MWh (US$141/MWh) for the 2026/27 and 2027/28 delivery years.
