Sunnova Energy International, Inc. has won its third consecutive Forward Capacity Auction (FCA) in the ISO-New England market. The auction secured an additional 38 MW for Sunnova, which now holds the largest wholesale market capacity position among behind-the-meter solar and battery storage developers in the New England region. The company has now secured a total capacity of over 188 MW in the ISO-NE market from FCA15 to FCA17. The success in the auction and the aggregation of distributed renewables show Sunnova’s commitment to leading the energy transition in the region.
Sunnova’s membership in the New England Power Pool (NEPOOL) allows the company to participate as a direct market participant in the ISO-NE market. The company’s aggregated residential solar and battery storage portfolio will offer competitive renewable energy capacity to meet the region's future energy needs. Sunnova's portfolio, which provides clean energy to about 67,000 customers, is expected to begin participating in the FCA17 commitment year starting June 2026. Additionally, Sunnova has collaborated with National Grid and SolarEdge to help improve power quality in National Grid's service area as part of the company’s commitment to the New England power grid.
Sunnova's commitment is priced at nearly US$2.59/kW-month across the region, and the company expects the gross value across the term to be approximately US$16 million. The company’s success in the auction will strengthen its presence in the region, contribute to grid reliability, and reduce carbon emissions. Sunnova's expansion in the renewable energy portfolio benefits not only its customers but also the broader community as the company works towards a sustainable future for all.
