Northland Power has signed an agreement with ESB for the acquisition of a 25% stake in the 840 MW Spiorad na Mara and 1.5 GW Havbredey offshore wind farms located off the coast of Lewis, Scotland. Northland will retain a 75% stake in each project, continuing to lead the development, construction, and operation of the wind farms. All commitments made by the projects before the agreement will remain in place.

Spiorad na Mara is located approximately 5 km off the west coast of Lewis and offers a potential capacity of around 840 MW. The project could provide renewable electricity to around 760,000 Scottish homes and save around 1.2 million tonnes of harmful CO2 emissions per year.

Havbredey, located approximately 35 km offshore to the northwest of Lewis, is a floating wind turbine project that could provide around 1,500 MW of renewable electricity, meeting the average annual electricity needs for around 1.3 million Scottish homes and saving around 2.2 million tonnes of harmful CO2 emissions each year.

The agreement with ESB marks a step forward for Northland Power in achieving its carbon-reduction goals through renewable energy.
