DuPont has announced that the Appaloosa Run Wind Energy Center in Upton County, Texas, USA is now operating and producing clean and renewable energy.
The wind energy project is a result of a virtual power purchase agreement between DuPont and NextEra Energy Resources, LLC. The energy center will generate 135 MW of wind power, leading to 528,000 MWh of renewable electricity annually. It is estimated that this amount of green energy is equivalent to the average annual electricity consumption of around 70,000 homes and can offset the carbon emissions of over 81,000 passenger cars driven yearly.
Other than producing large economic benefits for Upton County, including enhancing local roads, schools, and services, the Wind Energy Center will contribute to DuPont's sustainability goals. DuPont aims to cut absolute greenhouse gas emissions by 30%, procure 60% of electricity from renewable sources, and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
