Masdar has acquired a 50% stake in the Big Beau project - a 128 MW solar photovoltaic project in California, USA, along with a 40 MW/160 MWh battery energy storage system, from EDF Renewables North America.
The purchase forms part of its partnership with EDF, which was agreed upon in 2020 and involves 1.6 GW of renewable energy assets. This portfolio includes three utility-scale wind farms in Nebraska and Texas totaling 815 MW, and five solar projects in California of which Big Beau is one. As part of a wider global push, Masdar aims to reach at least 100 GW by the end of the decade, and the acquisition of Big Beau aligns with that commitment.
Masdar's move expands its international presence and sets it on a path to becoming a key contributor to the global push for green energy.
