E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company, commonly referred to as DuPont, was an American conglomerate founded in 1802 as a gunpowder mill by Eleuthère Irénée du Pont. Over the years, it expanded into a variety of industries, including agriculture, chemicals, materials science, and biotechnology. In 2017, DuPont merged with The Dow Chemical Company to form DowDuPont Inc. and subsequently split into three independent companies: Dow, DuPont de Nemours, Inc., and Corteva Agriscience. DuPont de Nemours, Inc. is now a publicly traded company and operates in several markets, including electronics and imaging, nutrition and biosciences, transportation and advanced polymers, safety and construction, and industrial biosciences. The company is headquartered in Wilmington, Delaware, USA.
