Mainstream Renewable Power-led consortium has submitted a feasibility licence application to the Australian government for a 2.5 GW offshore wind power project off the coast of Gippsland in Victoria.
The Australian government has designated the 15,000 square kilometre Bass Strait zone off Gippsland as a potential area to produce more than 10 GW of year-round energy generation. If the license is granted, the area will be home to the largest offshore wind farm in the Southern Hemisphere.
The project will be a significant step in the fight against climate change. This new offshore wind farm development, if approved, has the potential to help Australia achieve its ambitious renewable energy target goals.
