Keppel has invested in two green hydrogen and ammonia projects in Australia. The company has joined the CQ-H2 hydrogen project consortium, aimed at developing green hydrogen in Queensland. The project will involve the construction of 640 MW of electrolytic capacity to produce hydrogen for industrial applications. It is projected that hydrogen production will commence in 2028, starting with an initial output of 200 tonnes per day (tpd), with plans for scaling up to 800 tpd by 2031.
In addition, Keppel has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Incitec Pivot (IPL) to establish a green ammonia project in Queensland. The produced ammonia will be used domestically in Australia and exported across Asia. This project will leverage the hydrogen generated by the CQ-H2 project. The combined facility will have an annual ammonia production and export capacity of 850,000 tonnes.
By venturing into green hydrogen and ammonia production, Keppel and IPL are contributing to the advancement of sustainable solutions and supporting the growing demand for environmentally friendly alternatives in Australia and the broader Asian market.
