Keppel Corporation, along with Mitsubishi Power Asia Pacific and Jurong Engineering, began construction on Singapore's first hydrogen-ready cogeneration plant. The Keppel Sakra Cogen Plant is a 600 MW combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant designed to reduce the country's carbon emissions in line with its commitment to achieve net-zero by 2050. The plant, located on Jurong Island, is capable of co-firing with up to 30% hydrogen content and has the ability to run entirely on hydrogen to support Singapore's decarbonisation efforts.
Operating primarily on natural gas, the advanced CCGT power plant is projected to save up to 220,000 tons per year of CO2 equivalent compared to Singapore's average operating efficiency for equivalent power generated. With the ability to co-fire with hydrogen to reduce carbon emissions and to shift to run entirely on hydrogen in line with the country's decarbonisation efforts, the KSC plant is a major step towards reducing the country's carbon footprint.
In addition to producing power, the KSC plant has ability to produce steam for use in industrial processes for energy and chemical customers on Jurong Island.
