The Energy Market Authority (EMA) in Singapore has issued a second request for proposal (RFP) for electricity imports, as part of its plans to import up to 4 GW of electricity by 2035 to decarbonize the energy sector in Singapore.
The new RFP will be coupled with the initial RFP, which was released in November 2021 and received 20 proposals for the supply of power from Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, and Thailand. Under the initial RFP, EMA had sought to import about 1.2 GW of electricity starting in 2027. The participants in the first RFP had asked for more time to develop their proposals. Proposals that have been submitted under the initial RFP will automatically be considered under the new RFP.
The deadline for submission of proposals under the new RFP is December 29, 2023. EMA remains on track to meet its import target of 4 GW by 2035.
