Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has unveiled a proposal to build a green hydrogen production hub in South Australia's Eyre Peninsula. Dubbed as Evergreen, the project would cost AUD30 billion (US$19.9 billion) and be supported by around 14 GW of solar and wind capacity. The facility would include 4 GW of solar power, 10 GW of onshore wind capacity, and 7 GW of hydrogen electrolysis capacity. It would be situated in the SA region between the Spencer Gulf, the Great Australian Bight, and the Gawler Ranges.
The Evergreen project will add to the 30 GW development pipeline that CIP is currently working on in Australia. CIP has been actively pursuing investments in Australia's renewable energy industry, as the country transitions away from fossil fuels.
