LS Power has received legislative approval for the Aroostook Renewable Gateway project in the US. The project aims to interconnect renewable energy resources in northern Maine with the electric grid operated by the New England independent system operator (ISO-NE). The project plans involve constructing over 100 miles of new 345 kV transmission lines and multiple substations to transport new renewable energy from Aroostook County.
The project follows an extensive siting and stakeholder involvement process, with community open houses starting later this year. The state of the new facilities will be assessed and presented in an application to the Maine Public Utilities Commission requesting the route's final approval.
The transmission lines will connect and facilitate the transportation of renewable energy resources, enabling expansion and growth further into previously untapped regions. The project will result in a more efficient and reliable energy system in Maine and help the state achieve its environmental goals.
