Dutch developer Lion Storage has secured an irrevocable building permit for its 364 MW/1457 MWh battery energy storage (BESS) project located in the Vlissingen port, in the southwestern Netherlands.
Lion Storage's flagship BESS project, Mufasa, has reached a significant milestone with the irrevocable granting of its building permit. With a power output of 364 MW and a capacity of 1457 MWh, Mufasa is set to become the largest utility-scale BESS in the Netherlands once operational. The project will be strategically located in the Vlissingen Port (North Sea Port), a burgeoning energy hub in the southwestern Netherlands. It will have direct access to TenneT’s high-voltage grid and be situated near several large-scale hydrogen electrolysis and offshore wind projects under development. Commercial operations are slated to begin in 2026.
