Lhyfe has partnered with duisport, the company that manages the world's largest inland port in Duisburg, to conduct an extensive feasibility study for a 20 MW hydrogen project in Germany. This study will focus on building the first electrolysis-based hydrogen production plant directly within the port of Duisburg. The mission of this project is to provide an uninterrupted supply of hydrogen for local use, facilitating the decarbonization of mobility in the region.
Duisburger Verkehrs- und Versorgungsgesellschaft (DVV), Wirtschaftsbetriebe Duisburg (WBD), and Duisburg Gateway Terminal (DGT) have already signed a declaration of intent to support the initiative.
Lhyfe will be the primary entity conducting the feasibility study. The plant is planned to be constructed on land owned by Duisburger Hafen AG, with full operational capacity scheduled for mid-2025. The project's concept aligns with the partners' commitment to reducing carbon emissions through carbon-neutral activities. Additionally, a vital component of this hydrogen production project is the use of exclusively renewable energy sources to power the electrolysis unit, ensuring the production of green hydrogen. If the project goes ahead, up to eight tons of green hydrogen could be produced daily to cater to the partners' demands.
