Jujuy signs pact to expand Cauchari Solar Plant by 200 MW

The Cauchari Solar Power Plant, in Jujuy, Argentina, set up in 3 parts, the Cauchari Solar I, II and III with 100 MW each for a total of 300 MW, is being expanded by another 200 MW. The total is now 500 MW capacity. It will also include energy storage. The agreement was signed in Buenos Aires at the G20 Summit. Government-owned Jujuy Energia Y Mineria (JEMSE) won the project in an auction in October 2016.

The expansion of the project will include 220 kW high-voltage line from Altiplano substation to La Quiaca. The transformer station in Cobos will also be expanded from 345 kW line and the National Interconnected System.

Shanghai Electric Power Construction and Power China are the shareholders of the solar project. Talesun is the technology provider of solar modules while Eximbank will extend finance for the facility.
